I get the error message "cartridge can only be used in printer that initially installed it" after taking ink from my broken Officejet 9025 and putting it in the my functioning 9025 printer. The ink is almost full in all cartridges. I have over £80 in ink I don't want to throw out!

Hi @Chopper73,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the error message "cartridge can only be used in the printer that initially installed it" This occurs because HP cartridges have a feature called "cartridge protection." This feature locks the cartridge to the first printer it is installed in, making it unusable in other printers. Unfortunately, this protection cannot be reversed if the original printer is no longer functional. However, here are a few options to address the issue:
Check for Cartridge Protection Settings
- If the original printer is still accessible: You can disable cartridge protection on the original printer (if it can still power on and connect to the HP Smart app). To do this:
- Open the HP Smart app or log in to the HP Printer Embedded Web Server.
- Go to Settings > HP Cartridge Protection.
- Disable cartridge protection and save the changes.
- Once disabled, reinstall the cartridges in the original printer, and then try using them in the new printer.
Make you are using the HP Genuine ink cartridge
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
