HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8020.  I just changed my black ink cartridge (using an Original HP ink cartridge) and now my printer has been stuck saying "validating - please wait" for HOURS!!  I tried the print doctor that said to uplug it and plug it back in and it still sits at "validating - please wait."

Hi @BocaUser,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e is having trouble recognizing the new black ink cartridge.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check the Cartridge:

  • Ensure the black ink cartridge is properly seated in its slot.
  • Remove the cartridge and inspect it for any protective tapes that might still be attached.
  • Reinsert the cartridge, making sure it clicks into place.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect it to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer if it doesn't turn on automatically.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the black ink cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes before reinserting the cartridge.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Remove all the ink cartridges from the printer.
  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges one by one, starting with the black cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
