Hi @Dee1122,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP OfficeJet 6978 printer does not have a specific setting to increase the sound of the printing process itself, as the sound level during printing is largely determined by the mechanical operation of the printer. However, there are a few things you can check and try to potentially increase the audibility of the printer's operation.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Access the printer's settings through the control panel or the HP software on your computer.
  • Look for any settings related to "Quiet Mode" or "Silent Printing." If "Quiet Mode" is enabled, it reduces the noise made by the printer. Disable this mode to increase the sound level.

Printer Placement:

  • Place the printer on a solid, stable surface to prevent vibrations from being absorbed.
  • Ensure the printer is not placed on sound-absorbing materials, such as thick carpets or soft pads.

Printer Maintenance:

  • Ensure that the printer is well-maintained and that there are no obstructions or issues with the paper feed or print head. Sometimes, mechanical issues can make the printer quieter or louder.

Environment Adjustments:

  • If increasing the printer’s sound level is necessary for hearing in a busy environment, consider moving the printer to a quieter location where the sound can be more easily heard.

To access the "Quiet Mode" settings:

Using the Printer Control Panel:

  • From the home screen on the printer control panel, swipe down to open the dashboard, and then touch the setup icon.
  • Navigate to "Printer Maintenance" or a similar option.
  • Look for "Quiet Mode" and ensure it is turned off.

Using the HP Printer Software:

  • Open the HP printer software on your computer.
  • Go to the "Settings" or "Printer Settings" menu.
  • Find the "Quiet Mode" option and ensure it is disabled.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
