I purchased replacement cartridge 74 & 75 according to the booklet.   I get a message not compatible with this printer .  why   How can this be corrected. 

In the past I  have  used.  74. XL 75 XL .

I understand you replaced the ink cartridges on your printer and you are getting an incompatible ink cartridges error on your printer.

 

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

 

Did you make any changes to your printer?

 

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?

 

Have you tried printing using a different ink cartridge?

 

Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges on your printer?

 

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

 

It's sound like an ink cartridge issue check the ink levels on your printer and replace the low, empty or faulty ink cartridges.

 

Remove, inspect, and then reseat the problem ink cartridge

 

Clean the ink cartridge and carriage electrical contacts

 

An ink cartridge error message might display if an ink cartridge does not have full electrical contact with the printer. Follow these steps to remove and then reinstall the ink cartridge.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  2. Open the ink cartridge access door and wait until the carriage is idle and silent.

  3. Press down lightly on the end of the ink cartridge to release it.

  4. Slide the ink cartridge out.

       CAUTION: 

    Do not touch the copper-colored electrical contacts or the ink nozzles.

  5. Remove any clear protective tape that still might be on the nozzles.

       CAUTION: 

    Do not attempt to remove the copper electrical strip.

  6. If the ink cartridge is compatible, reinstall it.

    • The tri-color ink cartridge goes into the left carriage slot.

    • The black ink cartridge goes into the right carriage slot.

  7. Close the ink cartridge access door.

  8. Try to print again.
