I have an Envy 5010 printer. My black ink cartridge was out of ink. I inserted a new black cartridge as I have done many times before. The message says: "At least one of your cartridges has a problem." I inserted a new color cartridge as well but the error message remains the same. I had another new black cartridge and inserted it, but the message remains the same. I have unplugged the printer and then plugged it back in, but the same error appears.

 

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for fixing the issue.

I understand you are receiving a cartridge error

 

The compatible cartridge for your printer is HP 65, HP 64 is not a compatible ink.

 

 

Please use the compatible ink on the printer.

Update: I had an HP 65 black ink cartridge. I didn't see that number at Office Max, so I bought the HP 64 cartridge, which is also listed for use in the Envy 5010 printer.

Thanks for your response. The HP packaging, however, shows 64 and other cartridges for the Envy 5010 printer. I think that is misleading and, previously I both a double package of 65 b&w and color cartridges, which are now useless for me. Will HP do anything to make me whole on those cartridges?

Try the steps in the document on the HP 65 - Ink cartridge errors

 

Also, Try the single-cartridge mode 

 

The printer you own can work in single-cartridge mode, wherein the printer will be able to print with one cartridge in the printer. This will help us identify if its a cartridge issue or a printhead issue 

 

To try single-cartridge mode follow the below steps:

 

  • remove the black ink from the printer, leave the color in and try printing 
  • then remove the color ink, insert the black  in and try printing
