Hi @Richgarcia62,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting an error code 79 on an HP LaserJet printer typically indicates a firmware error. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve it:

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. This simple step can often clear temporary errors.

Update Firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause error 79. Check HP's official website for your printer model and see if there's a newer firmware version available. Download and install it according to the instructions provided. Update the firmware on an HP printer

Disconnect Additional Devices: Sometimes, connected devices such as USB drives or network cables can cause firmware errors. Try disconnecting any USB drives or other devices not essential for printing.

Reset the Printer: This involves a more thorough reset than just turning the power off and on.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect any cables (USB or network).
  • Wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to completely drain residual power.
  • Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.

Check for Physical Obstructions: Ensure there are no physical obstructions in the printer (like paper jams) that could be causing the error.

Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer. Be aware that this will reset all settings to their factory defaults.

  • Access the printer's control panel or web interface.
  • Navigate to the Settings or Service menu.
  • Look for the option to perform a factory reset and follow the on-screen instructions.
