After trying other options to get my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer to work, I've deleted my default printer and think I've re-installed it.  However,  I'm still getting a printer error message.   Help!

Hi @jamescook360,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Let's try to resolve this step-by-step. Here are some things we can check to get your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 working again.

Ensure the Printer is Properly Connected:

  • Double-check the USB or network connection to make sure everything is plugged in correctly.
  • If you're using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the same WiFi network as your computer.

Remove the Printer from Your Device:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Find the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 in the list and select it.
  • Click Remove Device.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds.
  • Restart your computer.

Reinstall the Printer:

  • After restarting, go back to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click Add a Printer or Scanner and wait for your printer to show up.
  • Select your printer and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall it.

Check Printer Status:

  • After reinstalling, ensure the printer is set as your default. Right-click on the printer and choose Set as Default Printer if needed.
  • Try printing a test page to check if the issue is resolved.

Check for Updates:

  • Sometimes updating the printer driver can fix issues. Go to Device Manager > Printers > HP OfficeJet Pro 8600, right-click, and choose Update Driver.
  • Alternatively, you can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
