I'm unable to align my printer.  Each time it says ' alignment incomplete - please make sure paper is new and unused'.  The paper is fine.  Any help most gratefully received!

Hi @AuntGlegg,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering an alignment issue with your HP Smart Tank Plus 555 printer. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Ensure Proper Paper Loading: Make sure that you've loaded the paper correctly into the paper tray. Ensure that the paper is aligned properly and that the stack of paper is not too thick or too thin.
  • Use Fresh Paper: Even if the paper seems fine, try using a fresh stack of paper. Sometimes, older paper can cause alignment issues due to slight warping or moisture absorption.
  • Clean the Rollers: Dust and debris on the paper rollers can sometimes cause alignment problems. Use a lint-free cloth dampened with water to gently clean the rollers. Make sure to let them dry completely before attempting to print again.
  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure that there are no obstructions in the printer's paper path. Even small pieces of paper or debris can cause alignment issues.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, simply restarting the printer can resolve temporary issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on again.
  • Update Firmware and Drivers: Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Visit the HP website or use the HP Smart app to check for any available updates and install them if necessary.
  • Perform Manual Alignment: If the automatic alignment process continues to fail, you can try performing a manual alignment. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to do this.

By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to resolve the alignment issue with your HP Smart Tank Plus 555 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
