@Oreaster, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Are you able to print in color?
Let us try these steps:
Check the estimated ink levels and replace any low/empty ink cartridge.
Clean the printhead
-
From the printer control panel, open the Setup
menu.
-
Open the Printer Maintenance menu.
-
If necessary, open the Tools menu, and then touch Clean Printhead.
-
If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. If necessary, repeat these steps for the third cleaning cycle.
NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.
Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page, and then evaluate the results.
-
Load plain white paper in the input tray.
-
From the printer control panel, open the Setup
menu.
-
Open the Reports or Tools menu.
-
Touch Print Quality Report. Check for black.
If the issue persists, perform step 9 from this document.
If the black still does not print, this is a hardware failure. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
