After my black cartridge hit empty. I put a new cartridge in but now it says printer failure

It happened to my 8600 Pro Plus last month after replacing two cartridges. I ended up buying a new HP print head. A probable fix is purchasing a print head cleaning kit but I didn't know that at the time. Apparently this can happen when letting an ink cartridge deplete completely rather than replacing before complete depletion. I've done this before but never had a problem. The first thing it says to do is power off the printer and power back on. You could do that until you are blue in the face and won't change a thing. The print head needs cleaning or replacement. I purchased an HP print head with starter cartridges rather than an after market print head. In either case cleaning or replacement you need to purchase all new cartridges unless you purchase the HP print head. With the exception or buy the HP print head you will need to go in the menu system afterwards and do print head cleaning to replenish ink into the print head.
