Hi @midwestwriter,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is printing gibberish and spewing out paper after upgrading to Windows 11, it’s likely due to a driver compatibility issue or a problem with printer settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check for Updated Printer Drivers

Visit HP’s Website:

  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Enter your printer model and search for drivers and software.

Download and Install Drivers:

  • Download the latest drivers compatible with Windows 11.
  • Install the drivers following the on-screen instructions.

Windows Update:

  • Sometimes, Windows Update includes printer driver updates.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

2. Reinstall the Printer

Remove Printer:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Remove device.

Restart Computer: Restart your computer to clear any residual issues.

Add Printer Again:

  • Go back to Printers & scanners.
  • Click Add a printer or scanner and follow the prompts to reinstall the printer.

3. Check Printer Settings

Printer Configuration:

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select Printer properties.
  • Check the Advanced tab to ensure the correct driver is selected.

Print Test Page:

  • From the printer properties window, click Print Test Page to see if the issue persists.

4. Clear Print Queue

Access Print Queue:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Open queue.

Cancel All Documents:

  • If there are any stuck print jobs, cancel them by clicking Cancel all documents.

5. Check for Windows 11 Compatibility

Printer Compatibility:

  • Ensure that your printer model is compatible with Windows 11.
  • Check HP’s website or the printer’s manual for compatibility information.

Firmware Update:

  • Sometimes, printer firmware updates are necessary for compatibility with new operating systems.
  • Visit the HP Support website to check for any available firmware updates.

6. Run Printer Troubleshooter

Open Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Select Printer and click Run the troubleshooter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
