macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hello,

I recently set up a new HP Envy 6455e printer to my Mac.  Each time I print an image there is a dark background surrounding the image.  It has used up most of my ink.  Could you assist me with fixing this?  Thanks

Hi @Brittney87,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Certainly! If you're experiencing a dark background surrounding the image when printing with your HP Envy 6455e printer, there are several potential reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

  1. Check Print Settings:
    • Ensure that you have selected the correct print settings for your document or image. Check the print settings in the software you are using to print and make sure it is set to the appropriate paper type and quality settings.
  2. Printer Calibration:
    • Some printers have calibration options that can be accessed through the printer settings. Check your printer manual or settings to see if there is a calibration option and perform the calibration process if necessary.
  3. Update Printer Drivers:
    • Make sure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Mac. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause printing issues. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.
  4. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can include bug fixes and improvements. You can check for firmware updates on the HP support website.
  5. Clean Print Heads:
    • Print heads that are clogged or dirty can result in print quality issues. Most printers have a utility for cleaning the print heads. Refer to your printer manual for instructions on how to clean the print heads.
  6. Adjust Print Quality Settings:
    • In your printer settings, you may have options to adjust the print quality. Lowering the print quality may reduce the amount of ink used and could help improve the output.
  7. Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges:
    • Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-genuine or refilled cartridges may not provide the same print quality and can lead to issues.
  8. Print a Test Page:
    • Print a test page to check if the issue persists. This can help you determine if the problem is specific to certain documents or if it is a more general printing issue.

Refer this document : HP DeskJet, ENVY 6000, 6400 printers - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
