I've read through enough of this forum and FAQs to understand about Instant Ink cartridges and non Instant Ink cartridges as well as when the billing cycle (service) begins. However my situation is this. I've installed the cartridges that came with my printer and I enrolled in the Instant Ink program chossing the free 15 page per month option. Now according to all the information I've read I am to beleive my billing cycle (service) will not begin until I install the new Instant Ink startup kit that is being shipped to me as I type this. And I do have a message from HP to me stating that my service will begin when I install these new Instant Ink cartridges. However the cartridges that came with my printer are being displayed as Instant Ink cartridges and my printer status already shows that I've printed 6 of my 15 allotted pages per month. Now how come my billing cycle (service) is already active when I have not even received my startup kit? Again, the message from HP to me specifically states my service will not begin until I unstall the cartridges from the startup kit being shipped to me. Since the included cartridges are used for printer setup, calibration and testing from multiple platforms (devices) please reset my printed page count to 0 until I install the Instant Ink startup kit as directed from HP. I will not have printer setup, testing and calibration pages used on my tally of printed pages for the Instant Ink program as is the case right now. I have only printed two (valid) pages so far on these Instank Ink setup cartridges. Thank you.

HP Printers that come with HP instant ink Ready Cartridges can get 2 free months as a trial if you are doing the enrollment within 7 days of getting printer or 7 days of turning on HP web Services, furthermore you can get added 2 months free if in Canada or USA by using a promo code.  The Promo code =XMAS18 for USA and promo code=HOLIDAYCA18 for Canada. (note only one promo code per account/per enrollment) *** Free months are based on paid plans not free plan *** (in theory you can get 4 free months allowing 300 pages each month at no charge if you enrolled in the paid plan and picked the 300 page option***

***When you enroll a instant ink ready printer and using HP instant ink ready cartridges the service actually starts right away and this is outlined in the terms of service, You didn't have to sign up right away you have the option of using your ink first until low before doing the sign up or doing the enrollment right away to take advantage of the free trial offer that instant ink ready printers have***

***To determine which option is better for you typically would be as follows: If you think you would use more ink then  the default cartridges within the first 4 months then doing enrollment would actually help you vs hurt you. 2 free months for instant ink ready printers/ 2 months for promo code = 4 free months / if you don't think you would even use the default cartridges within the first 4 months of owning the printer then you could have done the enrollment later and forfit the trial /promo instead***

Terms of service URL=

https://instantink.hpconnected.com/us/en/terms

Section 5 d of the terms states the following details=

Instant Ink Program Cartridges Provided to You.

  1. Instant Ink Service-compatible printers include regular HP ink cartridges (“Instant Ink Ready Cartridges”) in the printer packaging. The status of Instant Ink Ready Cartridges does not change unless and until You activate Your Service Account. If you have created Your Service Account within seven (7) days of printer set-up with an Instant Ink Ready Cartridge, the Instant Ink Service will automatically recognize and activate your Instant Ink Ready Cartridge as an “Instant Ink Program Cartridge”. If the printer You purchased came with Instant Ink Program Cartridges, carefully review the included written materials. Instant Ink Program Cartridges may only be used in conjunction with the Instant Ink Service. HP will thereafter send You additional Instant Ink Program Cartridges to allow for Your continued printing through the Instant Ink Service. If no Instant Ink Ready Cartridges or Instant Ink Program Cartridges were included with the Instant Ink Service-compatible printer that You purchased, then HP will send Instant Ink Program Cartridges to You after You have created Your Service Account.

*** My suggestion is as follows swich to paid plan pick the highest plan available, also make sure to call or chat and get the current promo code added to account this then would allow you 4 free months and you could print 300 pages per month and can bank up to 600 roll over pages to my understanding*** Futhermore if you know someone else on this service already you can ask them for there refer a friend code this would get you and the friend both an added free month on top of this****
