The problem appeared recently when I turned on my printer. This had not happened before this time.
The alignment for printing checks had shifted way out position. There was no error message. The
problem appears to be only with printing checks. All other printer jobs are normal.

Hi @Gardner8,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your printer’s alignment issue is specific to printing checks. This can be particularly frustrating, especially if the issue wasn't present before. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the alignment problem:
**1. Check Printer Settings
- Ensure that the printer settings match the type and size of paper you are using for checks. In your printer's properties or settings menu, make sure the paper size and type are set correctly.
- Verify the print layout settings in the software you are using to print checks. Ensure that the layout is configured properly and matches the alignment of your check paper.
**2. Perform Printer Calibration
- Many printers have a calibration or alignment feature. Check your printer’s manual or settings menu for an option to calibrate or align the printer. This process helps ensure that the printer accurately aligns the print head and paper.
- Some printers offer the option to print an alignment page. Follow the instructions in the printer’s manual to print and follow the alignment process.
**3. Check Printer Mechanism
- Ensure there are no obstructions or debris in the paper path. Even small bits of paper or dust can affect alignment.
- If your printer uses ink cartridges, clean the print head. Most printers have a built-in cleaning function that can be accessed through the printer’s settings menu.
**4. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers
- Check the HP website for any firmware updates for your printer model. Firmware updates can sometimes fix bugs related to alignment and other issues.
- Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. Download and install the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
**5. Check and Adjust Check Paper Alignment
- Make sure the check paper is loaded correctly in the printer. The alignment issue could be due to improper paper placement or feeding.
- Adjust the paper guides in the printer to ensure they are snug against the edges of the check paper. This helps prevent paper from shifting during printing.
**6. Print a Test Check
- Print a test check to see if the issue persists. Make sure to use a similar check stock and print layout as the one you’re having trouble with.
- Compare the alignment of the test print to your desired print layout to see if adjustments are needed.
**7. Check Software Configuration
- If you are using accounting or check printing software, ensure that the software settings match the check format and alignment. Sometimes, settings may inadvertently change.
- If the issue is with a specific check template, try reconfiguring or recreating the template within your software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
