HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2776 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

There was an issue in Printing and on running HP Smart there was a suggestion to replace ink cartridges. After replacing ink cartridges with original HP supplies, I continue to get an error - Indicated Cartridges are not communicating correctly with printer. I cleaned the Printing Heads and also did a reset by plugging out the power cable at both ends but continue to see error message with light blinking on Printer. It looks like color cartridge is not communicating correctly with Printer. However the Test Page ( alignment page ) got printed automatically after installing new cartridges. Please suggest.

Hi @Kandadai1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the color cartridge of your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2776 is not communicating correctly with the printer despite using original HP supplies, there are several steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check for Protective Tapes

Ensure that you have removed all protective tapes from the new ink cartridges. Sometimes, a small piece of tape can be left behind and cause communication errors.

Reinstall the Cartridges

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  3. Remove the ink cartridges.
  4. Reinstall the ink cartridges, making sure they are firmly seated in the correct slots.

Clean the Contacts

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridges and in the cartridge slots.
  4. Let the contacts dry completely.
  5. Reinstall the cartridges.

Update Printer Firmware

Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. You can do this through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Support website.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  3. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the power source and the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer if it does not turn on automatically.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP offers a diagnostic tool called the HP Print and Scan Doctor that can help diagnose and fix common printer issues:

  1. Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website.
  2. Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions.

Use a Different Cartridge

If possible, try using a different set of cartridges. There could be a defect with the new cartridge, even if it is original.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and possibly resolve the communication issue with your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2776 printer's color cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
