HP Envy 4520

I just wondered if anybody else got the error message for Ink Cartridges Problem every time they went to print? All I do is open the top of the printer and reinstall the cartridges and then it prints fine but I have to do this with every document I print.

I’ve gone through the steps online in regards to cleaning the cartridge with a cotton bud but it hasn’t stopped the error occurring.

I’m on the HP 50 plan and as I haven’t printed off enough documents, I have received new cartridges.

Any help will be appreciated?

@Pam271,

Thank you for posting this on HP Support Forums!

I see from your post that you're getting Ink cartridge error on your HP Envy printer. No worries, I'll be glad to assist you.

Splendid effort and fabulous description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score.  You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you tried to use the new ink cartridges and check if the issue persists or try an old ink cartridge.

Have you tried to update the printer firmware?

Let's start off by updating the printer firmware. If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer from our HP support website, using this link. Once done, restart the printer. For more details on how to update, please use this link: HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to do a hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Printers - 'Incompatible Ink Cartridge' or 'Ink Cartridges Missing' Error Displays

Alternatively, you can also go through the video - Click here

As these are to do with the Instant ink cartridges, I would need to know few details regarding your instant ink account to help you get the ink cartridges sorted.

Since the instant ink account details are confidential, please send me the required information via private message.

I am sending you a private message with the information required. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

Regards,
