Officejet 6600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi guys & gals, really need some help!

My HP Officejet 6600 has an issue. I get the message 'Missing or failed printhead - The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed' and when I click 'Show Me' I get the message 'Ink System Failure - There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists contact HP.".

So here I am!

I've scoured these boards for known issues/solutions and have followed the advice found (printer reset and firmware update). The printer reset didn't change anything and the firmware update was unsuccessful (tried several times).

I've also tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor. It located the problem but didn't tell me anything that the error messages on the printer didn't already tell me.

I'm now at a total loss.

I did notice on a couple of the threads I viewed here a PM was sent to people with this issue, I have no idea what the PM contains but I would appreciate it greatly if someone could send it to me if you think it might help. Failing that I am up for any possible solutions! Those threads were locked so I had to start my own one.

Many thanks in advance,
Dave

Just got off the phone with HP Printer Support regarding your (and my) issue of Printhead not found, after following all the suggested steps to correct the problem. They indicated it was a hardware issue issue, and could not be corrected.

There are UTube videos showing how to replace the head of the HP 6600 printer, with comments of some success but mostly failure. Included in the comment section were questions where to find the replacement part (head).

I am not inclined to dig into the innards of a printer, so am inclined to purchase a replacement - the HP 8710 was recommended.

Best of luck in solving your problem - if you need spare parts (other than a print head), please feel free to contact me.

Hi BillBTX,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I feared that would be the case, shame to have it confirmed really as I loved that printer!

In brighter news though, the missus did let me buy a replacement following your post - I went for the 6960 due to the price of it. It feels a bit cheap and flimsy compared to the 6600 but I guess you get what you pay for!

Thanks again,

Dave

Hi There,

Thank you for your insight/advice  If we are to buy a replacement (HP8710), how do you suggest that we dispose our old printer (HP Officejet 6700)?
