I just bought the black ink cartridge # 301 as I was told it replaces the previous cartridge #122.

When I installed it, I get an "Incompatible Cartridge" error.

Was the printer bought in one country and you have now moved?  In that case you will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.

Thanks Bob, however, as my printer is out of warranty I get no support from HP. I have lodged a support complaint on their page and will wait for a response. All other advise on their page is useless.

I am quite disgusted by their lack of support in the UK and also for this ridiculous issue. I will definitely not buy any HP products in the future if it means I cannot move countries with them without having these issues.

Thanks for your advice & help.

The regionalization reset is based on the cartridge warranty, not the printer warranty.  If the answer does not come back they will change the regionalization please post back here and I will see what I can do.

Hi Bob,

After your response, I tried calling the US help desk, who then forwarded me to the UK help desk with an invalid number. So I googled the UK call help desk and finally got through.

Initially the support team were reluctant to help saying it was not doable on Windows 8. However, I insisted we try and wouldn't you know it, it all worked out just fine in the end.

So thanks for your advice and my persistence also paid off. I now have a functional deskjet with the new cartridges.

Best regards,

Maraat
