Printer runs out of ink very fast. Purchased printer 4 months ago and I’m already on my third black ink carriage. I purchased one pack of 500 page paper when I purchased the printer and I have not used half. Basically I’ve used 3 black ink cartridges on less than 250 sheets. This has always been the case regardless of printer and I’ve used HP for the last decade but it’s to the point I ever decide to complain and suggest HP use clear cartridges so customers can see the amount of ink within the cartridges because I believe the cartridges aren’t full because if they were customers should not have this complaint year after year. It’s highway robbery!

@My4Guyz, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

What are the types of document you usually print?

Printing photos consume more ink than printing documents/text on a regular paper.

Also, check in the print settings if you are printing in 'Best' mode which consumes comparatively more ink then Draft or Normal mode to produce the best quality print out.

The settings are are at recommended settings, and I’m printing standard black and white documents for things such as son’s book report/research paper, and copies of syllabus and work teachers post online for them. I’ve dealt with HP for many years and for many years the issue has always been the same....the ink drains very fast. HP answer is always the same, check settings, or check this or check that! There are hundreds of posts about the same issue year after year and one would think this would be resolved or handled better by now. I literally bought an ink cartridge one day and it lasted less than a week. I’m not sure why HP hasn’t gone to clear cartridges (they recycle better) in order to be more transparent with their customers. I can honestly say, I will not purchase another HP printer after this one. HP has taken my money and the amount of ink in the cartridge is just no good. The amount of money I spend buying ink, I can go to my local office max or ups store and print copies from my phone or jump drive for .07-.10 cents each. Considering what I’ve spent already in the last 4 months on ink and the amount I’ve printed, it would have been cheaper to have gone to one of them to service my printing needs.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
