I've been printing a couple of colour images on my 6310 all-in-one, but the pictures started to get the 'striped' effect, so I used the Solutions Centre toolbox to clean the cartridges, whereupon the system reported that the left-hand cartridge (the tri-colour one) was "not the right sort for the printer'" even though it's been fine up until now. Yet it was a genuine new HP cartridge with almost 75% ink left in it.
Why would it do this and can I fix it????
Annoyingly, I can't even use the printer now to fax or do B&W copies, as it simply refuses to start up until I replace the cartridge - doh!

The stripes in printing and the failure to recognize the correct cartridge could both be caused by an issue with the electrical connection between the printer and cartridge. I would suggest cleaning the cartridge and printer's electrical contacts as shown in the document here.
I am not an employee of HP, I am a volunteer posting here on my own time.

Well, the good news is that - having tried the contact cleaning prcoess as described in the link - I got the printer to recognise the colour cartridge, after which I was then able to print some test pages. The not-so-good news is that the printing process has revealed that black cartridge appears to have dried-up, despite being 75% full and much newer than the colour one 😞
The really bad news is that, in the course of doing the work, one of the hinges on the printer lid snapped and the other one is partly broken! Fortunately, by tapeing down the sensor, I could 'fool' the printer into thinking that the lid is closed. Now, anyone know how to disassemble an OJ 6310 and replace the hinges????
