I have an HP Deskjet 2630 which was previously signed up for HP Instant Ink. Last week I decided to cancel my subscription. At the time I had a cartridge in the printer that I'd received from Instant Ink a few weeks ago. Now, my printer has stopped working and I'm getting an error message saying I can only use the cartridge in a printer that is signed up for Instant Ink! I tried re-activating my account through the HP Smart app but it won't let me. It advised me to carry out a factory reset, however I started the process then it froze and said it couldn't continue as it had lost connection with the network and told me I needed to print out some code or other to reconnect it!! So, I'm basically being held to ransom by HP because my ink cartridge will only work if I sign up to their subscription, and I can't reset my printer without a printout

Welcome to the HP User Community.
I am sorry you cannot print.
The mistake was leaving the Instant Ink cartridge(s) in the printer after the subscription was cancelled.
What?
Details are explained in the Terms of Service Contract.
Instant Ink cartridges, those sent to you and any "Instant Ink Ready" cartridges that are activated by the service will lock after the service is terminated. Locked cartridges cannot be used in any printer.
Examples of the Terms of Service Contract for various regions
Instant Ink - Terms of Service - USA
Instant Ink – Terms of Service - UK
What to do?
Try what would have been done:
It might be enough to remove all the Instant Ink Cartridges from the printer and replace them with a purchased set of HP ink cartridges.

What else?
If, for any reason, you want to reinstate the contract / service, you can do that, though it is possible (probably) the locked cartridges cannot be "unlocked" by signing up / activating an Instant Ink subscription. ?
