Hi @Karen367,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your printer.
If the instant ink account was cancelled, you will have to use regular trade ink cartriges to resume printing as the instant ink cartridges work only when the instant ink account is active.
Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain on the printer.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the regular trade ink cartridges into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
Also, update the printer firmware using this link and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply and advice. Are you saying because I am using instant ink cartridges that my printer would be in scan mode only. Also, printer shows as being off-line. Truthfully, if this is the case, I’m a shocked that HP would do this to users without informing them that this would happen. It is also ludicrous that by not being able to finish the two cartridges that are left of instant ink, I have to run out to the store and buy replacements.
Because we worked on this frustrating problem for five hours yesterday, I finally called Best Buy Geek squad and arranged for a technician to come to the house next week to get my printer back online. this will cost me $99 just for the visit and who knows how much more if something has to be replaced.
I am still trying to figure out why using HP instant ink cartridges would throw my printer off-line. Nevertheless, I will go out today and buy two new cartridges and let you know if this resolves my problem. I have to tell you that from the day I purchased this printer which is about a year and a half ago I have had at least 10 problems with it and have had to bring it over to geek squad at least six times for a repair. To say the least, I am very disappointed in the quality of this product. HP records will also show that when I first purchased the printer, there was such an involved problem with it that Best Buy had to return it to the manufacturer. Instead of sending me a new printer, I was sent one that had been rehabbed . I’m sure you can see my frustration with all of this and a great amount of money being spent on actually a cheap printer.
to be continued….. again, thank you very much for your response. I will let you know how everything works out

Hi @Karen367,
I am sorry for the misunderstanding and the inconvenience.
- Is the printer connected to the network?
- Make a copy on the printer standalone and let me know if you have the same issue. (Place an original document on the scanner glass and make a copy to confirm hardware is working fine)
- Error messages or Blinking lights (if any) on the unit.
- May I know which application are you using to print?
- May I know to which device are you trying to connect your printer to eg: Windows PC, Mac, or Smartphone (Android or iPhone)?
Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hello Irwin, Ill try to answer your questions as best I can.
Printer is not connected to Network, No error messages
The only version that can be found is the "Scan Only-Do not delete" printer. Ive run every program available to me to find a version unlike Scan Only. Also, nothng that I have run (HP Scan Doctor et al) finds hardware problems.
When I turn printer on, there are no lights on the dummy panel on the front. There is a pulsating purple light. If I turn the network on..on theback..just the purple light nothing...no "I" and no Wireless.
Im using WIndows 11. I dont k now what yoj mean by "What application are you using tp rint".
I appreciate your help but I think this is the second HP Envy Pro that has died on me.

Good Morning Irwin6
I followed all 5 steps that you outlined below....it produced no change.
I also turned Wireless on the back of the printer..no change just a pulsating purple light.
HP Print/Scan only finds "Scan only-HP952161(HP Envy Pro 6400 series-Do Not Delete".
I tried to print: Destination only lists the Scan Only and HP Smart Printing....neither print
Please understand that everything was working 100% until HP Ink mucked around with disabling the HP Ink cartridges.Obviously, that had to be done via wireless/internet to my printer. It is not coincidental.
Now I have to pay Best Buy Geek Squad $99 tocomeover here next week and try to connect my PC to the network again. Whay a mess!! Ill never buy another printer from HP again.
