My product name is HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 and product number is T0F28A.  I am trying to clean the printhead, but I cannot do it manually, only automatically.  So, when I went to settings to get the printhead clean because I could not get the black color printing, only colored ones work!  Unfortunately, I got some kind of error message: "The cleaning process was unsuccessful."  I tried to research for the solutions, but seemed to be limited on the information for my printer.  I guess it is not very popular printer.  Please give me feedback/helpful suggestions as to what should I do?

@JED1324, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you tried using an alternate black ink cartridge?

The printhead on this printer is non-removable. It can be only cleaned using the printer control panel.

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Make sure all 4 ink cartridges are installed in the printer.

Clean the printhead

  1. From the printer control panel, open the Setup  menu.

  2. Open the Printer Maintenance menu.

  3. If necessary, open the Tools menu, and then touch Clean Printhead.

  4. If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. If necessary, repeat these steps for the third cleaning cycle.

NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.
