@Tree09, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer or Ink System Error for HP OfficeJet Pro 8610!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The error message "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn the printer off, then on. If the problem persists, contact HP." generally indicates an issue with the ink system of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 printer. Here are the steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

Immediate Steps

  1. Turn Off and On: If you haven't already done this, start by turning the printer off and then back on to see if the issue resolves.
  2. Unplug and Replug: Unplug the printer from the power source, wait about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer back on.

Further Actions

If the issue persists after performing the above steps, try these additional troubleshooting actions:

Verify Room Temperature:

  • Ensure the room temperature is above 5°C (41°F). If the printer was stored in a cold environment, allow it to warm up for at least 12 hours.

Check Printer Level:

  • Verify that the printer is on a level surface. Use a "round object roll test" by placing a small round object (such as a marble) on top of the printer. If the object rolls to the back and to the left, the printer is likely level.

Check Ink Supplies:

  • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing the printer's IP address into a web browser. Check the ink supplies status and replace any low or empty cartridges.

Reinsert Ink Cartridges:

  • Remove and then reinsert the ink cartridges to ensure they are properly placed in the printer.

Replace Ink Cartridges:

  • If the error persists, remove all the ink cartridges and replace them with new ones.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
