HP Envy 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just moved.  Printer was working fine prior to move.  I need to know how to reconnect printer to PC running Windows 10, 64-bit.  I don't have manual handy.  Been all over Internet looking for information on rear-panel connectors -- none found.  Before move, printer was hard-wired to computer.  However, wireless was in use for ink monitoring.  If possible, I'd like to print via Wi-Fi but cable connection OK.  Software was downloaded and installed when printer was first installed -- before move.  Printer is operational with power applied.  Wireless blue indicator is on.

Thank you Flower_Bud for your very well done response.  However, I discovered a gremlin mischieviously changed the print setup in Windows Word to Fax.  Changing that setting to my HP 7640 solved my problem.

During troubleshoooting, I learned (I think) the following:

  • My printer can only print wirelessly to a network -- not to an individual printer.
  • My printer must be connected to my computer using a USB cable.
  • My printer can connect wirelessly to my modem/router.  Such a connection can be used to monitor ink levels by a company selling ink.
  • My priner has fax capability but must be used with standard telephone.  I doubt my VoIP Google Voice phone system would allow faxes to be sent and received, but it might.  Anyway, I almost never send a fax.  So, the fax capability is of little interest to me.

PS

I don't understand how this board works.  So, I hope this message gets to you somehow.  I wrote the same message somewhere else on this board but can't find it.  Again, thank you for your interest.

@Fred_Mertz

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, you're trying to connect the printer to your PC,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Have you changed the router?

Is Wi-Fi light blinking or steady on the printer?

Have you tried printing using a cable?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Restore network default:

1. From the printer control panel display, touch Setup.

2. Touch Network Setup

3. Select Restore Network Settings

4. Select Yes

Once completed, try connecting the printer to the network following steps from the link: Click here

Or you could connect using a USB cable following steps from the article: Click here

Let me know how that pans out

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

I have the same printer, same scenario. We moved, took the same router/modem, it was working perfectly before, but now cannot connect to the network after resetting the network settings on the printer. We've tried manually entering the network and also pushed the button on the router. Nothing is working. Any ideas? We have no idea where the USB cord is at this point as we are still unpacking boxes. We prefer it to be wireless, anyway.
