@Apryl_Hiatt,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP OfficeJet 6954 All-in-One Printer error 0x100004a typically indicates a hardware or firmware-related issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 2-3 minutes.
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Paper Jams

  • Open all access panels (input/output tray, duplexer, ink cartridge area).
  • Look for any stuck paper or debris.
  • Remove any paper carefully.

Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  2. Unplug the other end from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug everything back in and turn the printer on.

Update Printer Firmware

  1. Go to HP Support: HP Software & Driver Downloads
  2. Search for HP OfficeJet 6954.
  3. Download and install any available firmware updates.

Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinsert the ink cartridges properly.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water (if dirty).

Perform a Semi-Full Reset

This will restore factory settings:

  1. On the printer's home screen, press Back (←) four times.
  2. This opens the Support Menu.
  3. Select Reset Menu > Semi-Full Reset.
  4. The printer will restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
