My laptop only prints in black and white. I have been through every settings option on there and there are no buttons for colour selection or colour options anywhere!
I use a wifi connection & laptop has windows 10 home
My iPhone will send colour prints no problem. Just laptop.

@beashu, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
This is an issue related to the printer driver compatibility with Win 10 OS after the recent Windows update. Install HP driver which is for Win 7 from the HP Support site.
Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
- Select your HP Printer
- Select Uninstall
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
- In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
- Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
- Click on the “Drivers” tab
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
- Select Ok
- Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
- Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.
Click here to download the Full-featured driver. Follow the On-screen instructions.
Try printing in color.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you're having issues while printing in colour from your HP Envy printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did this happen after any software update.
Have you tried to run HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers.
As you have mentioned in your post that you're able to print from your iPhone, this definitely looks like a software issue.
Let's try these steps here:
I would suggest you uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them by following the below steps:
- Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
- Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
- Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
- Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
- Now check for issue resolution.
- If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Please click here(Please select the Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the latest printer software).
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!

Hi,
I'm not sure what started the problem. It could have been a windows update I dont remember getting a notice that any software updated though. I know this laptop has printed colour before with no issue.
I am not sure what HP Print is or what Scan doctor is?
I Followed all of your steps below but it didnt work. no colour printing and no options anywhere to switch between colour and black n white.

Hi,
there is still no options in that menu to select colour or black and white - the buttons have all vanished!
I‘ve been through every settings and options menu and it’s nowhere to be found.
I also found the hp trouble shooters and tried those but they couldn’t solve problem. The test pages even printed the colour blocks in monochrome.
I know the colour ink ink works as my phone & scanner are printing with it. They are Tesco own brand cartridges though (first time I’ve tried them)

I am experiencing the same problem..no colour and no options anywhere to change them. My HP ENVy 4522 prints fine from my ipad or phone, and will not print from computer, ether in Word or Outlook or Google drive. I expect it happened after some Windows 10 update as it used to work just fine a week or so ago.
