@AM1218, Welcome to HP Support Community!
The error refers to the scanner motor in the incorrect position.
Turn the printer off, and on again, and then try the job again.
Observe the scan carriage during scanning and verify no internal objects, such as cables, are obstructing the scan head.
If the problem persists, replace the internal scan assembly or the formatter.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my last post regarding Scanner Error 17 on Laser Jet Pro MFP M148 scanner/printer so though I appreciate the quick response the reply I received does not help me at all:
1. I am unable to download and install the software from 123.hp.com/laser jet due to the fact that the printer itself has constant blinking the lights for Ready (green)and Attention (yellow);
2. When I try to install the program it does not even find the printer;
3. I have turned the printer on and off at least 20 times a day for one week and it fixes nothing;
The reply I received suggested that I -
"Observe the scan carriage during scanning and verify no internal objects, such as cables, are obstructing the scan head". NOTE: I can't do this because I can't download the software!
and
"If the problem persists, replace the internal scan assembly or the formatter" - really??
Though I appreciate the response I have absolutely no idea how to replace the internal scan assembly or the formatter! nor should I have to do that myself as this printer is under warranty.
AlI I want is for someone to tell me where to have this fixed preferably before the warranty expires 10 months from now.
Thank you
