Bought a used printer from Facebook..Got screwed. Panel says RECOVERING FROM POWER FAILURE...PLEASE WAIT..
Does t do anything.. tried everything on HP Support Pages..
Can't remember the Error Code...thought 58.04 but not 100% sure . Packed it up to ship it back but it's going to cost over $115 to ship back so I just decided I'm going to try to fix it myself..
I think I narrowed it down to two things and I need help figuring out if it's the power supply itself that needs to be replaced or the engine control card...Any Help would be appreciated..

The low voltage power supply, RM2-7913-000CN, would need to be replaced. Located where power cord plugs in. Ebay will probably be your best option. There is a risk with this repair. If printer suffered damage from a electrical power surge (like a lightening strike), other electrical components could be damaged. Unfortunately, the power supply would have to be replaced first. I would remove power supply and see if it has a removeable fuse that can be replaced. Good luck.

thank you so much for your reply.... I was also told that the engine control unit card can be replaced if damaged to fix this issue.... So I wasn't sure if the car needs to be replaced or the power supply needed to be replaced..
The error code was 58.04

My service documentation for this error states low voltage power supply as indicate by @NC77 . I would replace that first and go from there.

I cannot rule it out, but I would start with the power supply and if that does not work then buy the engine card.

I replace the power supply and the message remained..
Now I replace the engine control unit card and the error message went away but the new message says card communication error...
I don't know what else to try I only replace the large card not the small card....
Please help...

This may be an old tread but to others maybe in future who find themselves in this situation. It was not lvps board with mine and I had exact same situation. Customer said they plugged machine into 220 which I have no idea how this happen? Anyways “ recovering from power failure. Please wait.” Checked fuses on lvps and all check out okay. Formatter board checked out okay as well. Next will be “engine controller PCB” which on this machine M477fnw is part # RM2-7909-000cn. I’m pretty sure this will be the problem. We are a repair center for brother machines, canon, and sharp but we fix HP as well. 15 years experience as a technician.

I applaud your persistence and technical skill. Thanks for the feedback. I cannot explain how a 110v power supply survives a 220v power connection. From my experience, there is always smoke when this occurs. This error condition does not leave any "breadcrumbs" to follow. Part swapping is the only way to isolate this issue. There is a fuser power supply,
RM2-6440-000CN. Good luck. Let us know the results.
