Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The title basically sums it up, but the network printer has not been able to print any print jobs, whether they come from user's computers, or configuration page print requests from the printer's menu itself. I've also tried sending a print job through the printer's web portal with no success in that the printer receives the job just fine, but does not print job at all, more than likely due to the error that doesn't go away on the printer itself stating "Please wait. Checking Printer...".

Have tried the following:

  • Power Cycling printer either by pressing and holding power button, to fully unplugging the power source and plugging back in.
  • Confirmed on level ground.
  • Loaded paper properly on other trays.
  • Updating Firmware to version 9.0.15316.545.
  • Using different printer drivers on user's computer (though suspect that wouldn't change issue much since printer initiated jobs also don't print).
  • Changed power source.

I'm at a loss of what to try next, and am unsure on how to pull any trouble codes to see if it's logging some specific error code causing the status message. Is there anything else that can be tried?

Keep in mind that you will need to install a SED (self encrypting) drive if you are going to install current firmware on the device. L41606-011 is the part number of the least expensive compatible drive I have found. Do not waste your time trying to use an SSD drive, they are not supported. Once you have the new drive, remove the formatter cover with the power off and you will see the drive there. Swap the drive and power up. You will get an error screen. You need to go into the preboot menu

Administrator>manage disk>boot drive>Erase/Unlock.

Once done, you need to install the firmware by going to the download menu and inserting a USB key with the firmware BDL file on it.

There is no version of firmware starting with #9.

Try cold reset the printer https://laserpros.com/img/TechTips/hp-cold-reset-futuresmart-firmware.pdf

Going back to my notes and the file that I used, you are correct; the firmware version used was 2411226_066603. Full filename used is cljM775_fs4.12.0.1_fw_2411226_066603.bdl

I attempted to perform the cold reset using the PDF provided, but there is no change to the issue.

Please check paper trays and paper path for any jammed paper.  If paper path is clear, perform a partial clean:

  1. Touch the middle of the control-panel display when you see the 1/8 under the logo.
  2. Use the down arrow ▼ button to highlight the +3:Administrator item, and then touch the OK button.
  3. Use the down arrow ▼ button to highlight Partial Clean and then touch the OK button.
  4. Touch the OK button again.
  5. Touch the Home button to highlight Continue, and then touch the OK button.
    NOTE: The printer initializes.

I would blame it on an internal HDD for making this issue if a cold reset isn't helpful.

Does it copy? Does it scan? Scanning can eliminate possible scanner issues.

From the preboot menu, run all the available diagnostics under the administrator menu as this may show you if there is a system failing such as the harddrive.

No paper path issues, and performing Partial Clean did not change issue.

It does scan so long as the Scan to Job Storage is not selected:

Here's an example of it producing a preview scan selecting another available scan option.

Tried running all the available diagnostics under the administrator menu as advised, but stalled at the following diagnostic scan:

Will have to check the conclusion of the diagnostics the next business day.

That diagnostics screen you are showing does not look correct. I have never witnessed the random characters at the top of the display that you show in your picture. That it fails job storage is another strong indicator that you may have an issue with the hard drive on this unit.

I suspected as much as well when I saw the only type of scan unavailable was a storage option.

Now to look up information on how to service a hard drive on this machine…
