Hi,
tried many things so far. Hard reset, Firmware update via WiFi, turning it off and plugging the power cable out for a while before plugging it back in and also disabled IPv6. Nothing helps.
The printer seems fine when the network calbe is disconnected and around 15 seconds after I plug it back it, error 79 shows up and the printer restarts. It continues to restart until I unplug the network cable.
There seems to be a print job stuck in the printer and I think it tried to print it before the error coems up. I tried to cancel, but the error pops up while cancelling the print job. None of the PCs have anything in their printer queue and the "hard reset" did not help, either.
EDIT: Uninstalled the printer on all PCs and changed its IP, so there's no chance for a rogue print queue. Still no change, the printer restarts itself with Error 79. All ink cartridges are from HP.

You need to clear the print spooler completely as there is likely a corrupted print job. Follow these instructions:
Note that deleting the printer does not get rid of jobs stuck in the spooler.

Out of curiosity: wouldn't changing the printers IP circumvent the issue of having something in the print spooler? All PCs were set up with TCP/IP. From my understanding, nothing can be sent to the printer when its address changes and the issue only comes up when the network cable is connected.

It only takes one computer to be using the HOST Name or a WSD port to screw things up. If you have multiple computers then you may need to flush them all.

I have experienced the sames issues after updating the firware and completed the same processes suggested in many of the forums without success. For me the problem was solved by
- Remove all cables from the printer.
- On start up/power on, press and hold (touch) the bottom right of screen. Continue holding for about a minute until message "permanent storage init" is displayed. (the printer then resets all NVRAM)
- On you PC go to "Services" ( run services.msc). Look for Print Spooler and STOP/(re-)START this service (use right mouse click)
- On the printer menu go to Setup Menu>Network Setup>Restore Defaults.
Restart printer. Plug cable in (or turn WiFi ON and configure). My printer then identified and alloacted IP Address (DHCP) and allocated IPv6 address. Steps 3 and 4 were the ones that fixed my issues. I am now able to print and scan over the network. ( I reinstalled the HP Scan and capture App to achieve remote scanning as the app wouldn't start)
