Since this morning, the printer has rebooted several times - once every hour or so.
The firmware seems to be up-to-date. Checking it wasn't easy, because when I browsed on the Administration page of the web interface, clicking on "check now" made the page start blinking (refreshing) repeatedly, without any result. When I browsed back to that page and clicked again, it simply replied "A printer update is already in progress. Try again later." But I see the Firmware Datecode is 20240231, which corresponds to the latest firmware on the website.
The "Install updates automatically" option is disabled.
I don't see any recent entry in the event log. Unfortunately, there's very little information, and when I click on one of the codes, it only opens the support page without giving the meaning of the code. But from the link, I deduced the latest was in March (http://hp.com/embed/sfs/doc?cli=[....]&date=2024-03-21&[...] ).
The printer is connected by Ethernet; wireless connection is disabled.
The energy settings are sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity, shut down after 2 hours. I think the last update fixed a problem where the printer couldn't be waken up after a shut down (but I can't find any release notes on the firmware updates, so it's a mystery). This update was long ago, however (June), and the problem I have is very recent (today).
I also tried to switch it off then on, of course, but to no effect.

Hi @TomMoss,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP LaserJet MFP M283fdw is experiencing a recurring issue that could be related to several potential causes. Here are some steps to troubleshoot.
Check for Firmware Issues:
- Re-check Firmware Version: Even though you mentioned the firmware is up-to-date, there could be an issue with the update process. Try manually downloading and reinstalling the latest firmware from the HP support website. Ensure the printer is directly connected to your computer during this process, if possible.
- Firmware Downgrade: If the issue started after the latest firmware update, consider downgrading to a previous version to see if it resolves the problem.
Power Supply and Hardware Check:
- Check Power Supply: Ensure that the power cable is securely connected and that the power source is stable. Try plugging the printer into a different outlet to rule out power supply issues.
- Inspect Printer Hardware: Look for any loose connections or signs of physical damage.
Network and Configuration Check:
- Network Stability: Since the printer is connected via Ethernet, ensure that the network connection is stable. Sometimes network issues can cause intermittent reboots. Check for any network-related errors or issues.
- Reset Network Settings: Try resetting the network settings to default and reconfigure the network connection.
Review Printer Logs:
- Detailed Logs: If possible, access detailed printer logs to identify any errors or warnings that could give more insight into the issue. Sometimes, deeper logs can be accessed via the printer’s web interface or by connecting to the printer via a direct USB connection.
Reset Printer to Factory Defaults:
- Factory Reset: As a last resort, perform a factory reset on the printer. This can sometimes resolve persistent issues by clearing out any misconfigurations or corrupted settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I mentioned the logs already in my first post, but you seem to suggest there are more detailed logs, however you don't give much information about it. Could you tell me where to find more detailed logs on this specific printer? I had obviously already looked for them, but without success.
I also said that the previous firmware had a problem, so I don't think downgrading is a good idea. And for the current version of the firmware, I gave its number and said it corresponds to what's on HP's website. Why do you suggest there might be a newer one somewhere else?
The rest was already verified before I posted. Out of curiosity, was this copied from somewhere? I looks very generic.

I don't see why you had to send me that by PM. Here's what you sent me. I hate to have to ask this, but are you a bot? Are you really working for HP?

Bon, apparemment je ne parviens pas à avoir l'aide du support HP sur ce problème, ni par l'interface maladroite Whatsapp, ni ici (à part le bot et ses réponses génériques). Le niveau est tombé bien bas.
Je vais me débrouiller autrement.
