HP LaserJet Pro m283fdw
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Printer works fine with 2.4GHz wi-fi, but when connected to 5GHz, it shows 169.254.XX.XX IP address which outside 192.168 range and cannot be pinged from PC. When changing router's setting from DHCP  to manual after setting static IP 192.168.XX.XX,  the printer is shown in router's list of connnected devices, but still doesn't work with 5GHz wi-fi network.

Also ePrint and Web Services don't work in 2.4GHz and show connection error.

While these printers advertise 5Ghz networking it is only the older N standard not the current A/C standard. The most reliable option to fixing the problem is to assign a different SSID to the 5Ghz channel and the 2.4Ghz channel.

Thanks for that information. But what I read is that "802.11ac is backwards compatible with 802.11n

802.11ac falls back to 802.11n to serve clients that don’t support 802.11ac."

I have different SSIDs for 2.4 & 5GHz.

It also doesn't explain why printer cannot connect to ePrint and Web Services even on 2.4GHz network.

Make sure that the gateway address is correct on the printer network settings and also set your secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8

As for the whole 5Ghz compatibility thing, theory and promises are different than reality in application.

Virgin Media router's settings don't allow to set DNS.
