I have a Laserjet 4000 that was working fine until I moved it from my old apartment to my new apartment. Now it only prints about the right two thirds of each page. As you move from the middle of the page toward the left end, the print gets lighter and lighter. I replaced the toner cartridge with a new genuine HP toner cartridge and I got the same result. Can anyone help me?

Hi @WalterParkerson,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue with your HP LaserJet 4000 could be related to the printer's hardware, particularly the transfer roller, fuser, or a problem with alignment or calibration after the move. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.

Check the Printer's Transfer Roller:

  • Open the printer and locate the transfer roller. It’s a long, cylindrical roller usually found under the toner cartridge.
  • Check if it’s dirty or has any debris on it. Gently clean it with a lint-free cloth.

Inspect the Fuser:

  • The fuser is responsible for bonding the toner to the paper.
  • If the fuser is not heating evenly, it can cause print quality issues.
  • Make sure the fuser is properly seated and not damaged.

Perform a Printer Calibration:

  • Sometimes, moving the printer can cause it to go out of alignment.
  • Look for the calibration options in the printer's menu and perform a calibration.

Check the Paper Path:

  • Ensure there are no obstructions or debris in the paper path that might be affecting print quality.
  • Check the condition of the rollers and guides.

Run a Printer Cleaning Cycle:

  • Most printers have a cleaning function that can help clear any built-up toner or debris that might be affecting print quality.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes updates can resolve printing issues.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on again.

Print a Configuration Page:

  • This will help you determine if the issue is with the printer hardware or the print job.
  • If the configuration page prints correctly, the issue might be with the print job or the connection between your computer and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
