It suddenly decided that it wanted to print from tray 1, which I never use and have no desire to use - and why should I? It then tells me "Unexpected paper size. Load Oficio in Tray 2". It's only ever had A4 - what on earth is Oficio anyway?).It then tells me to use available media (a Tray 2 full of A4). So I press OK and I get a test page and "Cleaning". I now have 4 test pages in a row, and no prints. Any suggestions, other than toss it out the window and buy something that actually works?

Officio is a paper size just like A4 is a paper size. You need in your printer settings to change the paper size for tray 1 from Officio to A4 and on the computer you are printing from set A4 for tray 1 printing and the problem is solved.

Thank you, it seems to be behaving itself again, although how long this will last remains to be seen!

I will add that this behaviour is often caused when printing a PDF if you have the "select paper size based on PDF settings" turned on as often PDF files are created with paper sizes other than standard A4 or letter.

Thank you, but no, that wasn't it, just a recalcitrant printer that seems to have developed a mind of its own. I now keep the full software suite on the computer on standby, ready for yet another uninstall/install routine (usually required about once a week). The previous gent/lady provided the solution to this particular issue; I fear that it merely means that the printer is now considering what devilment it can think up next. I mean, why would it even come up with Oficio, a page size that it not used in Switzerland (it appears to be a Latin American size), where everyone here uses A4? The printer wasn't bought in Australia, but it seems to have cottoned on to the old Oz principle, why be difficult when, with just a little more effort, you can be bl***y well impossible?
