Print function had been normal, even though printer had begun to alert that it did not recognize the color cartridges as 'genuine HP' when, in fact, they are.  Overnight, print function became light with color bleed.  Checked cartridge levels and printer failed to recognize level in color cartridges, but indicated replacement due for black cartridge.  Black cartridge was replaced with HP product, but there was no change in printer performance.  Have completed all the steps from 'support page'...clean print heads, align printer, unplug/plug-in, updates, blah, blah, blah.  Nothing changes.  Should note that performance is the same whether sending print command from computer or android phone.

@MCGUY,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Awesome job on diagnosing the issue correctly and performing smart troubleshooting before posting your question on HP forums. Kudos to you on that score.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?
  • Are you facing the same issue when you make a copy?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

While I wait for the answers, I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

If you continue to face the issue, I recommend you replace the color cartridge and checked whether it resolves the issue.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Replaced the HP color cartridges which were expired.  Color print is fine now.  Black print is hit and miss and very faint.  Replaced the new HP black cartridge with another new HP black cartridge on the chance that it was defective.  No change.  Have not made any changes to computer software or hardware.  Copy and print both produce the same faint, hit and miss black print result.
