M652
macOS 12.0 Monterey

We've got a M652, and it has been on our wireless network for a few years without incident.  It seems to have lost the SSID information, and is offline as a result.  We cannot find the Administrator password for the printer, so we're locked out for making changes.

Is there a way to perform a factory reset without the administrator password?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi @JMTO,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're locked out of M652 and need to perform a factory reset, here are the steps you can follow:

  • Turn off the M652 device.
  • Press and hold the reset button located on the back of the device.
  • While still holding down the reset button, turn on the M652 device.
  • Continue holding down the reset button until the Power LED light on the front of the device starts to blink rapidly.
  • Release the reset button and wait for the device to complete the reset process.
  • Once the reset process is complete, the Power LED light on the front of the device will stop blinking and remain lit.
  • The M652 device has now been reset to its factory default settings.

Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all the data and settings on your M652 device, so make sure to back up any important data before proceeding.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The M652 being an enteprise level product means you need to perform a partial clean from the pre-boot menu. Power off the printer and then power it on, when the HP logo appears on the screen, press the X button. The printer should now start up with a blue does like screen. use the up down arrows and the ok to navigate. Go to administration, then select partial clean. Nothing will appear to happen after you select partial clean, but next you use the back arrow until you see continue. Press OK and the printer will restart and reinstall the operating system without a password. ALL DATA IS LOST doing this so you will have to set it up again.
