Just got this printer. Nice output but delay before printing is too long. If not fixed I will return. Takes many minutes. Happens with color or B&W. Also printer is connected by USB, not wireless. I tried the reset with power off/on.

thanks
Ken

@ken225, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Follow the steps below-

Step 1: Reset the printer

Resetting the printer can resolve slow printing issues.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

    NOTE:

HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Try to print. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Use a different USB cable

Using a USB cable that is too long or improperly shielded can affect print speed.

If the printer is connected with a USB cable, try using a different USB cable, and then try to print. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Check the print driver settings

Check the print driver settings. Selecting certain paper types or printing in Best or Maximum DPI quality can slow print speeds. Print with plain paper in Normal or Draft quality for faster print speeds.

  1. On your Mac, open the photo or document you want to print.

  2. Open the photo or document you want to print, click File, and then click Print. For the Photos app, click the Print button at the bottom of the window.

    The print settings window opens.

  3. Make sure your printer is selected.

  4. If you do not see options on the Print dialog box, click Show Details.

  5. Click the unnamed menu at the center of the window, click Paper Type/Quality or Media & Quality, and then select Normal or Draft from the Quality or Print Quality menu or slider.

Try to print. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 4: Reinstall the print driver

Remove and reinstall the print driver and software to make sure you have the latest version.

  1. Click Finder in the Dock.

  2. Click Applications, and then open the HP or Hewlett Packard folder.

  3. Double-click HP Uninstaller, and then remove the HP software for your printer.

  4. After uninstalling the print driver, go to 123.hp.com, and then download and install the latest driver.

  5. Try to print.

Step 5: Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
