Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Previous laptop had hardrive failure. Bought a new laptop and installed windows 10. Then proceeded to the HP site to install the driver after checking compatibility with windows 10. Everything appeared to work properly, except I lost the ability to select automatic duplex printing. I've checked the troubleshooting from previous OS and tried the recommended suggestions, and they do not work to fix this issue in windows 10. Suggestions? Thanks

The 'automatic discovery' feature used by some drivers on installation doesn't always work; ensure that the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that one is):

  • For the printer instance in question, bring up the Printer properties dialogue.
  • Select the Device settings tab.
  • Ensure that the duplex unit is set to Installed rather than Not installed.

You'll probably need to be logged in with administrator credentials in order to change the device settings.

It is great when the solution is so simple! Thanks for your quick response. This should have been an faq in the section "after upgrading to windows 10". Thanks

Officejet Pro 8600 prints duplex but I am trying to print a 13 page document with header.  This document printed perfectly BEFORE I got a new computer with Windows 10.  It prints perfectly when I print it page by page but when I try to print with flip on long edge it cuts off part of the header on the first page and the rest of the document is missing header altogether.  The vertical alignment is off over an inch on the even pages yet only a fourth of an inch on the odd pages.

I checked properties and it appears the driver recognizes I have duplex printing.

 Thanks

@CaptMAD - you have added a comment about a different problem to the one originally raised in this question.

As this question is rather old (dating from Ocober of last year) it is unlikely to be seen by volunteers who may be able to assist you, as it will not appear on the list of recent topics.

It only came to my attention because I was a responder to the original question, and was alerted to the update.

I'm having the same trouble, viz., the message about Automatic Two-sided Printing Module Missing. I have checked the Printer Self-test and the Device Settings, and both say the duplex unit is installed. So where do I go from here?

The printer is OfficeJet Pro K8600dn, originally installed under Windows XP, but now running under Windows 10. Single-sided print is fine. I checked for a more recent driver, but it seems to be up to date. I have the following Driver Files:

I hope that helps you to diagnose the problem.

The printhead on my OfficeJet 8100 Pro went bad so I ordered a replacement from HP.

When I installeed it I lost the duplex printing.  I did not reinstall the printer software.

Thank you @Dansdaduk for your solution.
