I have been printing two-sided copies on my LaserJet M1217 for a few years, needing only to manually transfer pages from the output tray to the input tray, midway, for the second side to print. After I upgraded my Mac to Catalina 10.15.5, I had to update the printer driver and now the two-sided option is grayed out and not available. I know the workaround with its extra steps of choosing even (print), then moving paper and printing the document again choosing odd pages. What a nuisance. Why did the "update" produce a loss of efficiency? How can I get that back?

Hi,
the Two-Sided option should be grayed out, as the printer does not support automatic duplexing.
Look for the Manual Duplex option from the menu, if no such appear it might be due to using an AirPrint driver.
If no such option appears, this is likely due to using AirPrint, please download and install below drivers:
Once completing the installation click the plus sign under System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, ensure the printer model is selected within the Use drop-down menu, and check for any difference.
