I am running Mac OS 14.0 Sonoma on a MacBook Pro

Yes, I have a genuine HP toner cartridge in it.

I was able to print 3 different documents and then the printer stopped working. It has an orange light. I print the information page and it says "Printer cannot print" "A problem occurred and you will be unable to print, except for printer reports, until the issue is resolved. Check your HP account for more information. To learn more, open the HP Smart app or visit www. hpsmart.com and sign in to your account.
When I check my HP Smart App, the printer status shows "Printer Cannot Print" "A problem has occurred and you will be unable to print until the issue is resolved. Sign in to your HP account on the Home Screen to check your status."

I have unplugged it several times, disconnected/reconnected to wifi, removed/added printer, updated the drivers. How do I fix it?

Hi @JennaBurton,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like there might be an issue with your HP LaserJet M209dwe printer. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  1. Check for Paper Jams:

    • Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams. Remove any paper stuck in the printer.
    • Ensure that there are no small pieces of paper or foreign objects inside the printer.
  2. Check Ink or Toner Levels:

    • Make sure that the ink or toner cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink or toner levels.
  3. Restart the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes.
    • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. If there are, follow the instructions to update the firmware.
  5. Reset the Printer:

    • Press and hold the power button on the printer for about 10 seconds to perform a hard reset. After that, turn the printer back on.
  6. Check HP Smart App:

    • Ensure that your HP Smart App is up to date. If not, update it from the app store.
  7. Check HP Account:

    • Sign in to your HP account on the HP Smart App or the HP website and check if there are any notifications or alerts regarding your printer.
  8. Network Connection:

    • Ensure that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Check the network settings on the printer and reconnect if necessary.
  9. Check for Error Messages:

    • Look for any error messages on the printer's display or through the HP Smart App. These messages can provide more specific information about the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
