macOS 12.0 Monterey

The paper is not getting pushed all the way out.  I "clear" it and reset the printer.  The error code clears.  But then the paper gets stuck again when I print another page.  I tried the suggested clearing process and reset process multiple times.  It does not stop the paper jam error.

@JFV1953, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems you're experiencing issues with your HP LaserJet M234sdw printer, specifically error code 05, along with incomplete paper ejection and repeated jams. This is often related to problems with the exit rollers, fuser unit, or sensor obstructions. Here’s a structured approach to help you resolve this issue:🔍 Likely Causes

  • Worn or Dirty Exit Rollers: If the rollers are dirty or worn, the paper may not exit fully, leading to jams.
  • Fuser Unit Issues: If the fuser is not feeding paper properly, it can cause the paper to curl or stall.
  • Blocked Exit Sensor: A malfunctioning or obstructed exit sensor can lead the printer to falsely detect a jam.
  • Incorrect Paper Type/Size: Using the wrong type or size of paper can cause it to catch or curl.
  • Humidity or Curled Paper: Paper stored in damp conditions may curl, leading to jams.

🛠Step-by-Step Fixes

  1. Check Paper Path Thoroughly
    • Open the rear access door or duplexer.
    • Inspect the output rollers and fuser area for any torn paper, toner debris, or visible obstructions.
    • Gently rotate the rollers (if accessible) to ensure they move smoothly.
  2. Clean the Exit Rollers
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
    • Clean the gray rubber rollers at the back and inside the output path.
    • Allow them to dry completely before attempting to print again.
  3. Check the Exit Sensor (if accessible)
    • Look for a small black plastic flag near the output rollers (possibly near the fuser).
    • Gently move it to ensure it springs back freely and isn’t stuck or dislodged.
  4. Try Different Paper
    • Use fresh, flat paper that hasn’t been previously jammed.
    • Stick to standard 75–90 gsm paper and avoid glossy, damp, curled, or mixed-size sheets.
  5. Fuser Check
    • After printing a test page, if the paper feels excessively hot or is curled and stuck near the exit, the fuser may be faulty.
    • In such cases, you may need to seek service or consider replacing the fuser unit.
  6. Firmware Update
    • Visit the HP Software & Drivers page for your printer model.
    • Install the latest firmware update, as this can sometimes resolve repeated jam errors caused by sensor calibration issues.

  • Open the rear access door (or duplexer) while printing.
  • Allow the paper to exit from the rear instead of the top, which may help bypass the stuck point.

Hi Max3Aj,

Unfortunately, none of the suggestions helped.  This unit is brand new.  None of the issues in your list of potential problems were exhibited.  The paper stops exiting about an inch before it should.  I think I need to return the unit under warranty.  Please advise.  Thanks.
