This printer stopped working, indicating a toner error. I didn't look closely at the error code other than seeing the toner icon blinking, and I just replaced the toner with a genuine HP 134X cartridge, which we have been using in our fleet of four M234sdw printers since the initial cartridges. After one print, Error 11 error started showing up which, I suppose, was the original error that I must have overlooked (so the original toner - now sent to recycling - might not have been empty in the first place).
I took that new toner cartridge and placed it in one of the other M234sdw printers for which I had replaced a cartridge days before. No error; prints fine. I then took that printer's cartridge (also a genuine HP 134X) and installed it in my problem unit, which immediately displayed Error 11. The web UI supplies status indicates a non-genuine cartridge. ??
On my problem unit, I performed hardware resets (unplugged and held power button for 30+ seconds; left unplugged for 60 seconds); cleaned the contacts on the cartridge and on the printer's sensor; checked for firmware updates (none available - all up to date at 20250209); and reset to factory via web UI and reconfigured. No change - still Error 11.
This unit is only lightly used, and this was only the second toner swap since the initial toner cartridge from when we purchased the unit in 2022.

You must be right. A new firmware version was released *today* (date code 20250311; https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/swdetails/hp-laserjet-mfp-m232-m237-printer-series/model/308365...), as it happens. Installing that update via the printer's web UI has fixed the issue.
As an aside, I initially tried using the update utility via the installer that I downloaded from the above link, and though the utility reported that it had successfully performed the update, the error was still there even after another hardware reset. That utility did have a notice that the printer had to be in a "ready" state for it to work; so maybe the Error 11 status prevented the utility from working correctly.
Oh, I'm turning off automatic firmware updates, though I'll manually update my other printers of this model to this latest firmware version.
Thanks for the response.

The latest firmware from HP bricked your ( and a lot more ) printer. You did nothing wrong, the automatic firmware upgrade did that. Wait for a fix from HP ( if they manage somehow to fix it).
