I can't find a service manual or anything that shows how to get inside the duplexer or anything in the back of the unit to look for whatever is making it report that there is a jam. Without removing covers or parts, I'm dead in the water.

Printer is out of warranty, of course.

Hello @1Madman,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Here you can see how to access the duplexer: Clear paper from the duplexer (duplex printers only)

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Thank you for the response. There is no visible paper anywhere that I can see. The piece that I originally found was a very small piece of label paper. I suspect there is a small torn sheet somewhere in the paper path that is causing the error code to be thrown, but I cannot see it or remove it. Do you have nay information on how to remove the printer covers or any of the duplexer that would allow me to see inside of it?

Thanks!

You will probably need to remove the fuser to gain access. Check around the internet you should be able to find a service guide. Models like the M452 are quite similar and videos on YouTube should guide you.
