M479fdw prints grey smudge on one of first 2 pages of every batch

Printer is just over a year old now and has been printing a grey smudge about 1cm wide across one of the first 2 pages of every batch.  The position on the page seems random.  This has been occurring ever since the printer was purchased.  I was using HP cartridges so that is not the issue.  It gets annoying when you have to print one more copy than you need or reprint the one page that has the smudge and hope it does not happen on the single page.

Any ideas on how to get rid of this issue?

Does it happen when you copy an original from glass?

I will have to give that a try.  Bad timing on my part when I asked the question.  I am away for the next week but will test it out and reply when I get back.
