My M553 prints after it initializes on a restart but after a few hours any print job I sent to the print queue will not print until I turn the printer off and back on and it cycles through startup.  The printer is connected the HP computer by a print cord and not WiFi so I can't see why this is happening.  I had another M553 on another HP all in one and it never did this.  So frustrating.

Hi @muherdone,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP M553 printer stops printing after a few hours, there could be several possible causes for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Restart the Printer: Begin by turning off the printer, disconnecting the power cord from the wall outlet, and waiting for about 30 seconds. Then, reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on. This simple step can often resolve minor software or connectivity issues.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model to see if there are any available firmware updates. If updates are available, follow the instructions provided to download and install them. Keeping the printer's firmware up to date can address various performance issues.
  • Verify Connectivity: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If using a USB connection, try using a different USB cable or connecting to a different USB port. If connected wirelessly, check the Wi-Fi connection and make sure the printer is within range of the router.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Outdated or incompatible printer drivers can cause printing problems. Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model to download and install the latest drivers for your operating system.
  • Clear Print Queue: Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause issues. Open the print queue on your computer and cancel or delete any pending print jobs. Restart the printer and try printing a new document.
  • Adjust Power Settings: Check your computer's power settings to ensure that it's not set to go into sleep mode or hibernate after a certain period of inactivity. Such power-saving modes can interrupt the printer's connection and prevent it from printing.
  • Check for Paper Jams or Low Supplies: Ensure that there are no paper jams inside the printer and that it has enough paper and ink or toner. Low supplies or paper jams can trigger errors and halt printing.
  • Reset Printer Settings: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you can try resetting the printer to its default settings. Refer to the printer's user manual or visit the HP Support website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
