The HP ENVY 7640 says it has a paper jam. I have cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, unplugged, plugged. There is no paper jam. False reading. How do I override the system?

Hi @Zelestrob,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 7640 printer is consistently giving you a false paper jam error message despite your efforts to clean and inspect for any jams, there are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and possibly override the system.

  • Reset the Printer: Sometimes, resetting the printer can resolve false error messages. To do this, turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the back, and wait for about a minute. Then, plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on again.
  • Check for Small Paper Shreds: Even tiny pieces of paper or debris can trigger a paper jam error. Use a flashlight to thoroughly inspect the printer's rollers and paper path for any remaining shreds of paper or debris. Use compressed air to blow out any dust or debris that may be causing the issue.
  • Check Paper Tray Alignment: Make sure the paper in the tray is aligned properly and not overloaded. Adjust the paper guides to fit snugly against the paper stack.
  • Inspect Internal Components: Open the printer's access door and check the interior for any obstructions or foreign objects that may be causing the error. Carefully remove any debris you find.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve software-related issues.

Keep in mind that attempting to override the system may void your printer's warranty or cause further damage if not done correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
