MY OFFICEJET PRO 7720 IS NOT WORKING. EVERY TIME I TRY TO PRINT SOMETHING THE DISPLAY SHOWS AN ERROR MESSAGE. IT SAYS THAT THE PAPER SIZE DOESN'T MATCH WITH THE CHOSEN ONES (A3). BUT I PUT IN THE PAPAER TRAY A4 SIZE AND I CHOSE TO PRINT A4 SIZE. SO WHAT S THE PROBLEM?

Hi @Johnt50

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 is encountering a mismatch between the paper size settings in the printer and the actual paper size in the tray. While you've selected A4 in the printer settings, it seems the printer might still be detecting the paper size as A3 due to a configuration issue or a sensor error.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check Paper Tray and Paper Size Settings

Verify Paper Placement in the Tray: Ensure the A4 paper is properly loaded in the paper tray, and the tray guide is adjusted to fit the paper size. Sometimes, if the paper is slightly misaligned, the sensor might not detect the correct paper size.

Check the Tray and Paper Size Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper tray is correctly configured for A4 size. Some printers allow you to manually select the paper size for each tray.
  • Open the printer tray and check the alignment of the paper. The paper should fit snugly, and the tray guide should match the paper size exactly.

Step 2: Set Paper Size Correctly in Printer Settings

  1. Set the Paper Size on the Printer:
    • On the printer display screen, navigate to the Paper Settings or Tray Settings menu. Double-check that it is set to A4 for both the paper tray and the print job.
  2. Check the Printer Settings on Your Computer:
    • When you send the print job from your computer, double-check that you've selected A4 as the paper size in the print dialog.
    • If you're printing from a specific application, ensure that A4 is selected as the paper size in the application itself, not just in the printer settings.

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

  1. Update the Printer Firmware:
    • Sometimes a firmware issue can cause the printer to misread paper sizes. Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model (HP OfficeJet Pro 7720) to check if there are any firmware updates available.
  2. Update Printer Drivers:
    • Ensure that you have the latest HP printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can cause mismatches between the print settings and the printer.

Step 4: Reset Printer to Factory Defaults

If none of the above steps work, you may want to reset the printer to its factory default settings to clear any potential configuration issues:

  1. From the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance.
  2. Select Restore Defaults or Reset to Factory Defaults.
  3. After resetting, reconfigure the paper size and tray settings to A4 and try printing again.

I hope this helps.
