Ran out of ink. changed the black cartridge. now only blank pages. I do not use color but keep the empty color cartridges in machine. No error messages. printer process works but no image on pages.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

If you out in your old ink cartridge, does something get printed on the pages?

Also, does this also happen while copying?

Let's clean the ink cartridge:

  1. From the printer control panel, open the Setup  menu.

  2. Open the Printer Maintenance menu.

  3. If necessary, open the Tools menu, and then touch Clean Printhead.

    A test page prints.

Example of the printhead cleaning test page

  4. Examine the test page.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. If necessary, repeat these steps for the third cleaning cycle.

If the issue persists, please perform the remaining steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-6970-all-in-one-printer-series/8289585/model/1...

Let me know if this helps.
