There are so many of the same complaints about this sudden warning "missing or failed printhead" that just comes out of nowhere. I just signed up for HP instant ink 2 days ago and I printed out a couple of pages and everything was fine. The next day I attempted to print out something and this warning came up. There is nothing wrong with my printhead or my ink cartridges and there has never been anything wrong with them. I called today (2 days after enrolling into HP ink) and the guys says well your printer is obsolete and we cannot provide tech support to an older printer. He says unplug it and see what happens and if the warning is still there then I can help you purchase a new HP printer. Really how convenient that they can help me buy a brand new HP printer when I already had a perfectly fine working printer. I tried all the unplugging and resetting and before any HP volunteer comes out and says why would you think this or that, just stop because this is a absolute scam by HP. The only thing that will work is ending my association with HP instant ink and having a friend fix it or just moving on with a complete different brand of printer. Who is going to spend money of a new printhead? HP knows that people will just buy a new printer instead. Unfortunately there are many types of businessess and people out there pulling this crap on customers. What a complete scam.

Hi @noprints2,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer that has a printhead error.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
